Merge PDF

Combine PDFs in the order you choose.

This tool runs in your browser. Your document is not uploaded. What happens to your files

How it works

  1. Choose two or more PDFs.
  2. Drag the documents into the intended order.
  3. Merge, open the combined file, and download it.

Key benefit

Pages are copied without image recompression, and all work stays in the browser.

Supported files and key limits

Input: PDF. Output: PDF.

Encrypted input must be unlocked first, and bookmarks and form-field structure from the source files are not carried over.

Check the order before merging

File pickers often return files alphabetically, which can place Exhibit 10 before Exhibit 2. Review the page previews rather than trusting filenames. Each document shows its first pages and its position in the list, and files are merged from top to bottom. Drag a document to move it.

What carries over

Page content. Every page of every file keeps its content, size, rotation and text layer. Pages are copied, not redrawn.

Page-level annotations. Links and comments attached to a page come with it.

Metadata. The title, author and subject come from the first file, on the reasoning that merging usually means adding exhibits to a motion, and the result is still the motion. The merged file is named after the first file too.

Bookmarks and forms. These belong to a whole document rather than a page, and they do not carry over. Three files cannot keep three bookmark trees in one, and form-field structure is not merged. Bookmarks from the sources are gone from the result, and form fields may stop working as forms. If either matters, keep the originals.

Password-protected files. Merge does not open them. It names the file that is blocking it and stops. Take the password off with Unlock PDF, then add the file again.

After merging

A merged filing is an easy way to end up over a size limit, because the cap applies to the single file. If it is now too big, you can compress it to the exact limit or split it again at a sensible boundary. A court’s own guidance is usually to divide an oversized exhibit rather than degrade it.

The combined document also has a new sequence, so add page numbers after the merge if “see page 40” needs to mean the same thing to every reader.
