Watermark PDF
Apply a text watermark to the pages you choose.
This tool runs in your browser. Your document is not uploaded. What happens to your files
Shift-click a range · ⌘A all · Esc none · I invert · ⌘Z undo · or type a range to skip the grid entirely
How it works
- Choose one PDF.
- Select pages and set watermark text, position, and opacity.
- Apply the watermark and download the new copy.
Key benefit
You control which pages receive the mark, and the operation runs locally.
Supported files and key limits
Input: PDF. Output: PDF.
This is a visible mark, not access control or a substitute for redaction.
A watermark is a label, not security
A watermark becomes part of the page content. Readers cannot hide it with a viewer setting, but someone with a PDF editor may still remove it. Treat it as a label, not as document security.
“DRAFT — NOT FOR FILING” across a page does its job when the risk is someone filing the wrong version. If the requirement is that nobody can alter a document, you need a digital signature. If nobody should be able to open it, use a password.
Mark only the pages that need it
Most watermark tools stamp every page. Here you can select pages or type a range, so a privileged page can carry its designation while the cover sheet stays clean. The mark appears on each selected thumbnail before you commit, so you can see whether it collides with anything on the page.
Position, opacity and rotated pages
The nine-cell grid places the text as the reader sees it. Pages in a duplex scan are often stored upside down, so PDFOak works out the position in the page’s displayed orientation, maps it back through the page’s rotation and turns the text to match. Bottom-centre stays bottom-centre on every page, however the page is stored.
Opacity starts at 25%. A very low setting can vanish on a busy scan, and a very high one starts to hide the text underneath. The mark is drawn on top of the page content, so it covers whatever sits under it.
What stays the same
Watermarking does not recompress anything. Existing text stays selectable and images are not re-encoded, so the file grows only by the added text and a font reference. The watermark is real page content, so searching the result for “DRAFT” finds every page you marked.
