Split PDF
Cut one document into several, at the points you choose.
This tool runs in your browser. Your document is not uploaded. What happens to your files
How it works
- Choose one PDF.
- Select the boundaries where a new file should begin.
- Split and download the resulting ZIP.
Key benefit
Every page remains at its original quality while one document becomes several.
Supported files and key limits
Input: PDF. Output: PDF.
Files are named by page range, so check each one before sending it. Bookmarks and form-field structure do not carry over to the parts.
Choose gaps, not pages
Every other page tool asks which pages you want. Split asks where the cuts go. A cut in the gap after page 4 means the first file ends at page 4 and the second starts at page 5. The gaps between the thumbnails are clickable so you never have to guess which side of a page the boundary falls on.
The readback under the strip shows the resulting files as page ranges, so you can check the boundaries before you commit.
Split keeps everything
Extract keeps the pages you select and discards the rest. Delete discards them and keeps the rest. Split discards nothing: join the output files back together and you have the original, in order.
The result is a zip, stored rather than compressed, since PDF pages are already compressed inside. Files are numbered and named with the page range they hold, so Exhibit-C-02-pp05-12.pdf tells you what is inside. Each part keeps the original’s title, author and subject. Bookmarks and form-field structure do not carry over to the parts.
If a filing is too big to upload
If a long filing exceeds an upload limit, split it at a logical section boundary. If a short scan is simply too heavy, compression is usually the better tool.
Limits differ by court. The Second Circuit, for example, accepts a filing with no more than 10 attachments, each no larger than 10 MB, and says an oversized appendix should be divided. That is one court’s rule, not a national one. A 600-page appendix is a length problem, so split it. A 40-page scan that weighs 30 MB is a size problem, so compress it to the exact limit.
