How to Rotate PDF Pages

A duplex scan often has every second page upside down, and choosing Even pages fixes those in one go. Otherwise select just the pages that are wrong.
Because rotation changes how a page is displayed, the text layer and image quality stay exactly as they were.
What rotation will not fix
A page tilted by two degrees needs deskewing, which redraws the image. PDF rotation works only in quarter turns of 90, 180 and 270 degrees.
A mirrored scan is not a rotation problem either. Turning it makes it upright and leaves the text reversed.
Why nothing else changes
The operation changes the page’s rotation setting instead of decoding and re-encoding pixels. The text layer, vectors and embedded images are left as they were.
Fix it in five steps
- Choose the PDF.
- Select the sideways pages, or Even pages for a duplex pattern.
- Rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise.
- Look at pages that mix portrait and landscape.
- Download and open the corrected copy.
Frequently asked questions
Will rotating make the PDF larger?
Not meaningfully. Page content is not re-encoded.
